Alum Bay

During 1998 & 1999 the London Maritime Archaeological Group (LoMAG) worked on an unknown site in Alum Bay off the Isle of Wight at the western end of the Solent.  During 1998, a MADU Team visited the Solent to help with Maritime Projects being undertaken by the Hampshire & Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology.  During their visit, MADU spent some time in Alum Bay, but probably hindered more than helped in LoMAG's attempts to complete their survey of the site.

In an attempt to keep out of the way however, MADU did carry out some off site search work, in an attempt to try and discover the full extent of the wreck, and to locate a mystery cannon reported to have been spotted to the south west. This mystery cannon was however not found, and despite MADU's intervention, LoMAG successfully completed their survey of the Alum Bay site following further visits during 1999.
